Few anatomic structures play such an important role in defining the appearance and age of an individual, whether man or woman, as the neck.

Changes in the characteristics of the skin, muscle, fat and even the salivary glands may give the neck an inadequate appearance which will definitely have a negative effect on the facial features.

Three are the most common signs of aging that may occur at this level. First of all, a broken and undefined jaw-line (the true origin of the neck), which is produced by the descent of the skin and fat beneath the cheeks at both sides of the chin (jowls). Secondly, an excessive amount of fat may accumulate under the chin (double chin) at a subcutaneous and deeper level, which prevents the adequate definition of the neck. This is may be more evident in a lateral view of the face and neck while looking down. Finally, one may often observe the so-called platysma bands or longitudinal creases that may be seen originating underneath the chin and descending towards the clavicle in a variable number.

Conventional plastic surgery procedures attempt to resolve these problems simply by stretching the skin of the face and lateral neck, associated or not to a liposuction under the chin. These techniques often produce inadequate results since attempting to treat the neck by means of stretching the face, creates a face with an excessively tight look, and worst of all with an unresolved sagging neck.

Dr. Bravo performs a direct treatment of the structures of the neck through a limited incision technique. Although technically more complex, this procedure produces results which are more effective, natural and long-lasting, achieved after directly managing the altered structures in the inferior third of the face and neck, avoiding excessive skin tension.
